Large body of human garbage found in Pacific Ocean

If you have been watching the TV Network news lately you would have heard about the massive body of garbage that has been found collecting in the center of the Pacific Ocean. The reporters have mentioned that the area is bigger than the state of Texas. They are blaming all nations surrounding the Pacific for the garbage. They are stating that the major cause is from trash left beside river and streams that found their way down to the ocean.

Here is where I dispute that claim. Those reporters have not taken into account the events of major storms that have caused a great deal of massive flooding in coastal regions throughout the Pacific rim area. There is no human way to prevent large items from being washed out to sea during a hurricane, monsoon or coastal flooding due to a major rain storm. People are more concerned about saving lives than things and are not about to risk their lives to save a house being washed away. I hope that next time those reporters will take into consideration other factors as well a just trash left beside the river.

Underwater volcano

Underwater volcanos or Submarine volcanos are mostly found as underwater mountains. They are formed from extinct volcanoes. There are many of these underwater volcanoes. Most of them will not form to make it to the surface. It is also thought that they have a 75% magma output and when the volcano erupts it can make the surrounding water pressure 250 times more than normal. Amazingly sea life can live and thrive close by these volcanoes.

Lobster larvae could be affected by pesticides

Now I wonder why scientists have only just come to this conclusion. It is a well documented fact that pesticides have been the cause of deformed birds in the central valley of California for decades. It makes you wonder why we eat the stuff. More power to organic growers.

Betta fish as gifts

It is at this time of year that fish are common Christmas gifts. The Betta seems to be a fish of choice for many people but also is one of the most misunderstood of fish. I personally know of several people that think the Betta should only live in a small tank not much bigger than the cup it came home in! If only these people would educate themselves on the care of the Betta fish. A good book would go a long way for them. If you are thinking about getting or receiving a live animal be it fish, mammal or bird please get a good source of information. Try to get several views on the animal's treatment and care before you decide on which one will work best for you.

Dolphins the target of slaughter

We almost always hear of dolphins and whales being hunted by countries like Japan but now Brazil is up to the same thing. This is an older news story from a few months back but I am sure that many people have not heard about it yet so I am posting it here.

How fast can a Blue Whale swim?

Blue Whales can swim faster than most boats including speed boats. That is the main reason why they have not been filmed much by nature film makers. Most of the filming has been done by helicopter. The Blue Whale has been clocked at 34 miles per hour when they feel threatened.

Stop killing sea otters with cat litter

Did you know that a bacteria found in cat litter boxes is killing sea otters? How did that bacteria find it’s way to the ocean? Some cat owners flush the used kitty litter down the toilet. That’s how the bacteria is finding it’s way to the ocean. This bacteria is deadly to sea otters. Do sea otters a favor and don’t flush used cat litter down the toilet.

Your first goldfish

Most children are introduced to fish when they usually get their first goldfish. Years ago the goldfish were sometimes prizes in carnival games. Most places have outlawed that practise now as animal abuse. Many of the goldfish did not survive the day after being won at the games. This was due to children's lack of understanding what the needs of the goldfish were.
